Things I make for myself (while I'm working stuff out)
Dirt and Flesh Magazines
In 2013 I tried to find a different direction for my cut magazine pieces. I focused on fitness and off road magazines cutting through layers until only the flesh or dirt remained.
a couple drawings
In 2011 I started making a series of drawing about artists of the 60s in the style of Ed Roth's Rat Fink. It had be almost 25 years since I'd really tried to mimic Roth's style and it was interesting to see if I could do it again. I thought it might become part of a bigger body of work but it never really gelled.
Christmas of 2013 I picked up Jan Kempenaer's Spomenik a book documenting Soviet era monuments in Yugoslavia. At the same time I was at my parent's house for the holidays and came across an old Etch-a-Sketch. I found myself drawing brutalist monuments which I thought seemed a bit appropriate for such a ephemeral medium.
I started 1986 being a Political Science major at UCSD. By the end of the year I was double majoring in Art and Political Science, had become the graphics editor of the UCSD Guardian and started doing a radio show at KSDT. I was also skateboarding way too much. To commemorate this transitional year in 2013 I created skateboard decks for the 1986 Supreme Court based on some of the greatest deck designs of the 80s.
